Notes on Gaelic Title
Cumha Baintighearna Mhic Dhòmhnaill Lady MacDonalds Lament A; Cumha Bhan Thighearna Mhic Dhomhnuill / Lady Macdonald’s Lament KB. Lament for Lady Macdonald. Noted in A as having been composed by Angus MacArthur, and dated 1790. According to A. Cameron, Reliquiae Celticae, 2 vols, Inverness (1892), p. 148, this is Lady Elizabeth Diana MacDonald, wife of Lord Alexander MacDonald, and she actually died on 18th October 1789. The naming of the tune contrasts with the salute for Lady Margaret MacDonald, mother of the same Lord MacDonald, in which the personal title is not Gaelicised – see Fàilte Lady Margaret (PS 196). Lady Margaret lived until 1799.
