William Donaldson’s Set Tunes Notes (2006)
There are two tunes in the Nether Lorne MS commemorating ‘MacAlister’: One is ‘MacAlister’s Dead’ and the other .’MacAlister’s Lively’. A story is hinted at, here; it is very similar to the one told by Angus MacKay about Ian Dall MacKay and his teacher, Patrick Og MacCrimmon, whose reported death led the Blind Piper to compose a lament – only to discover later that Patrick was still alive.
