Notes on Gaelic Titles
Cumha na Peathar Cumh na Paithair / the Sister’s Lament H;Cumh na Peahair / The Sisters Lament D1; Cumha na Peathair / The Sister’s Lament K1. The Sister’s Lament. The name, and a major poem on the theme, have been discussed by Sorley MacLean (cf. Somhairle MacGill-eain Ris a’ Bhruaich, the criticism and prose writing of Sorley MacLean, edited by William Gillies, Stornoway [1985], pp. 247-248) who notes that it is not possible to tell whether the lament is ‘for’ or ‘by’ the sister.
