Notes on Gaelic Title

Cumha Mhic Leòid Cholbig Cumha Mhic Leoid Cholbic / MacLeod of Colbeck’s Lament KB. Lament for MacLeod of Colbeck. Colbeck is an estate in Jamaica, and it is not obvious how, or whether, it should be put into Gaelic. Angus MacKay (KB) attributes the tune to his father, John, but gives no date or historical note. The subject is suggested to be John MacLeod, 2nd of Colbeck, who died in 1823. See R.H. MacLeod, ‘MacLeod of Colbeck’s Lament’. Piping Times 39 No. 12 (September 1987), pp 44-46.
