On the identity of the subject, see Fàilte Mhic Nìll Chinn Tairbeirt (PS 284). The name is considered to have been coined by Angus MacKay, using ‘fancy’ or ‘favorite’ as occurs commonly in eighteenth-century tune names. See R.D.
