Notes on Gaelic Titles

A Mhnathan a’ Ghlinne seo is mithich dhuinn éirigh Varon Na Glin ins Mich gun Erie C2. Women of this glen, it’s time for us to arise. In more recent tradition, songs with this opening are attached to Bodaich nam Briogais (PS 2). For concordances and discussion see A.M. MacDonald, The relationship between pibroch and Gaelic song: its implications on the performance style of the pibroch ùrlar. MLitt Thesis, Edinburgh University (1995), pp. 164-179.

Murt Ghlinne Comhann  Mursd a’ Ghlenne’ Cho 1692 / The Masacre of Glenco R;Mortadh Glenne Coann / The Massacre of Glencoe D1; Massacre of Glencoe Dj; Murt Ghlinne a Comhann / The Massacre of Glencoe KB. The Massacre of Glencoe. This is the invariable English designation both of the tune and the event, but murt ‘murder’ and mortadh ‘killing’ are evidently the vernacular equivalents.
